NPSA welcomes findings from NHS Performance Ratings data

The National Patient Safety Agency has welcomed new findings published today that reveal the overwhelming majority of trusts do report and learn from patient safety incidents.

 

The NHS Performance Ratings, released by the Care Quality Commission, show that just over 95 per cent of trusts take recommendations on board to improve their services and act upon patient safety notices, alerts and other communications within required timescales to increase safety for patients. 

  

NPSA Chief Executive Martin Fletcher said: "We welcome the findings from the Care Quality Commission and would like to congratulate staff within those organisations who have performed well in this year’s ratings.

  

"It is clear from this latest assessment that there is a clear focus on patients and the safety of services they receive.

  

"With strong, visible leadership from boards we can make patient care even safer.  Boards hold the key to successfully embedding patient safety within their organisations and building an even stronger culture of reporting and learning to prevent harm to future patients using NHS services.”
