NPSA Comment on Healthcare Commission Arrangements for Annual Health Check

18 June 2008

Martin Fletcher, Chief Executive of the National Patient Safety Agency, said:

“Patient Safety is moving up the agenda as an issue of huge importance for the whole healthcare community.

It is very welcome that the Healthcare Commission has continued to put a strong emphasis on reporting, learning and consistent implementation of safer practices. With a potentially avoidable safety incident occurring in one in ten episodes of care, there is nothing more important than improving the safety of patients.

The Annual Health Check will help ensure that all organisations are putting patient safety first."
